Perched on the rock of Sidi M'Cid, overlooking the plain of Hamma over 200 meters, stands the Monument to the Fallen of the Great War.
This triumphal arch was inspired by that of Trajan which is located in the ruins of Timgad. It is topped by a statue of Victory achieved by Ebstein. This statue reproduces a Roman bronze statuette named "Victory of Constantine, found by soldiers during excavations in the courtyard of the Kasbah. Statuette is currently visible in Cirta museum.
This monument is the work of the architectural firm Marcel Dumoulin and Maurice de La Chapelle, which had its offices 92 rue Georges Clemenceau.


The foundation stone of war memorial was laid Nov. 18, 1918, Constantine is the first city in France to vote to build a memorial to victims of the war 14-18. The works are spread over 12 years, and the Monument was inaugurated May 7, 1930, in the presence of Gaston Doumergue, President of the Republic, Paul Doumer, Senate President Ferdinand Buisson, President of the Chamber of Deputies, Ministers and Mr. Morinaud, Mayor of Constantine.
